Match Made in heaven

San Restaurant, on the sixth floor of Sandton Sun hotel, caters to those in search of the best fine-dining cuisine and professional service in an unpretentious, relaxed environment.

This grand cafe-style eatery offers diners breakfast, lunch and dinner, all incorporating the finest sustainably sourced ingredients. The emphasis on seasonality ensures that the menu is ever-changing, but always uses the freshest local produce. It’s also worth noting that San is carbon-neutral.

Whether you’re here to do business, socialise or spend quality time with loved ones, you will find the perfect spot among the range of different spaces at this memorable venue. Foodies will delight in the opportunity to see their meals prepared in the show kitchen (found alongside the restaurant), where they are welcome to chat to the chefs about the art that lies behind food preparation.

Semi-private and private dining venues are perfect for groups, functions and special occasions; while the library lounge area is ideal for a light lunch and a casual business meeting, or simply a cup of coffee while catching up on some work.

Last, but certainly not least, on the list of fabulous spaces available at San Restaurant is the much-cherished San Deck, where Joburg’s best sunsets are enjoyed by those in the know.

Food For thought

Each day at San Restaurant promises enticing new flavours. Here, the chefs’ creativity and skills are constantly put to the test: They must design a menu of traditional and modern dishes – all meeting the highest standards. And they must also source the freshest seasonal produce with which to create these dishes.

The edible artworks created each day include such masterpieces as rabbit ballotine wrapped in pancetta, accompanied by an earthy beetroot and goat’s cheese salad and tomato salsa; or perhaps a herb-encrusted salmon served with black gnocchi, fresh summer vegetables and zesty pomegranate salsa. The all-important sweet offering may include black-pepper macarons, orange and vanilla chiffon, or manjari gourmet chocolate ganache.

Pair your meal with a bottle from the collection of rare South African wines bought on auction, or pull up a chair at the bar and toast the end of the day with your pick from the range of premium cocktails. must-try drinks developed by the talented mixologists, using premium alcohol brands, include the sour-cherry and mint G&T, and the sunset martini (which contains marula juice as the secret ingredient).
