Food, glorious food

With recently refurbished Lingela’s generous buffet and stylish new look, you’ll be back for seconds and thirds

Food, glorious food

Far more than just a typical hotel buffet, Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani’s Lingela restaurant offers up sumptuous fare with added sophistication. The sleek new interior, accented with tasteful streaks of bronze, mahogany and moody purple, creates a chic, modern space perfect for comfortable dining.

The striking black bar heaves with salads and sides, while lit-up ice troughs keep the seafood fresh. And, in the curry corner, copper elements add warmth to the exotic spread, while the restaurant’s minimalist design allows the colourful dishes to speak for themselves. In- between trips to the buffet, gaze out of the expansive windows at Durban’s iconic beachfront and promenade.

The friendly personnel are quick to attend to your every need, truly making Lingela a restaurant where the warm service flawlessly matches your abundant meal.

Redesign aside, Lingela’s real draw is the food. The restaurant’s update has also increased the mouth-watering selection of dishes available. The buffet bar is piled high with warm and cold delights.

Try the restaurant’s signature hearty oxtail or duck casserole from the hotpots section, then head to Chef Shaun Munro’s South African meze and sample the seared tuna, shrimp cocktail or some marinated sun-dried tomatoes and olives. And, if you would like dinner and a show, you can watch Lingela’s dynamic chefs grill your meat to order at the interactive cooking station – choose between beef sirloin, Karoo lamb chops and calamari steak.

Don’t forget to visit the curry corner where you can try one of the delicious locally inspired curries, served with naan fresh from the new tandoori oven. Despite the excellent meat provided, vegetarians won’t feel left out with items such as the grilled sweet-potato salad, dolmades and brinjal cigars on offer.

Pair your plate with a glass of one of the fine vintages available from the superb wine list, then round off your feast with one or two of the sweet treats from the dessert buffet. Pile your plate with cakes, pastries and tarts or – if your tastes are more savoury – tuck into the wide selection of artisanal cheeses and biscuits to complement your after-dinner coffee.
